Grow a Chicken Fighter Sell Guide: Which Chickens to Keep (2026)

Sell vs fuse in Grow a Chicken Fighter: the four-tag triage, route chickens to never sell, and when selling beats fusing for cash.

Selling chickens is a core cash skill in Grow a Chicken Fighter — most of your money comes from the PIT, but a well-timed sale funds the exact upgrade that unblocks your next floor. The hard part is knowing which chicken is “just extra” and which one quietly runs an egg route you still need. This page collects the community’s triage rules, checked August 16, 2026.

Why should I sell chickens at all?

Selling converts a chicken into Cash directly — “only pure Sell birds become Cash,” in the community phrasing. Selling matters most when:

  • Inventory is full and Nest spam is blocking better hatches.
  • You need Cash for a live window — an attack breakpoint during a 2x Money boost.
  • A chicken failed three PIT timing tests and is clearly not a carry.
  • You hold a duplicate route bird and already have one tagged.
  • Rebirth is close and you want to convert junk before the reset.

Fusion, by contrast, consumes potential Cash plus a parent. Selling prints Cash now; fusing bets on a stronger bird later. Neither is always right — the triage below decides.

What should I keep vs sell?

Community guides converge on a four-tag triage. Give every chicken exactly one tag:

TagMeaningExample
CarryEquipped fighter that wins PIT/TOWER fightsYour best timed chicken
RouteLays an egg type you still needAstro Chick before Void goals
Fuse parentA planned fusion craft that upgrades the carryThunder-line parents
SellDuplicates, outclassed tutorial birds, extrasSecond Classic Rooster

If a bird earns two tags, keep it. A chicken that both lays a missing egg and fuses toward your carry is worth more than either use alone. When in doubt, the community rule of thumb: if the Flock index says a chicken lays an egg you lack, it is not junk.

Which chickens should I never sell early?

Route chickens are the expensive mistake — sell one too early and the egg route stalls for days. The community list of route birds to keep until their egg goal is done (or the hunt is abandoned):

  • Viking Rooster — early Thunder/Scratch route engine.
  • Cosmo Brat — fastest documented layer (Scratch, ~100% every ~2 min 40 sec).
  • NPC Chick / Stone Face — the reported doorway toward 404 Chick.
  • Agent Cluck — the route into Fortune Eggs.
  • Ballerina Hen — the reported route into Balloon Eggs.
  • Commando Rooster — Thunder-branch layer and Ordnance route.
  • Astro Chick — the Void Egg doorway; never sell your only copy before the Void route is done.

Your only Thunder-line carry also stays — don’t sell it because a screenshot hyped a different skin. See the all eggs page for which chicken lays what.

When should I sell instead of fuse?

SituationPrefer
Need Cash in the next 10 minutes for an attack upgradeSell
Clear fuse recipe that upgrades your carryFuse
Bird opens a missing egg routeKeep (neither)
Duplicate common with no route textSell
Unique rare with bad PIT times but Thunder parentsFuse parent / Keep

The tie-breaker is always the PIT timing test: if the sale funds a breakpoint that visibly speeds clears, it was the right call.

What is a good selling routine?

The community session loop, in order:

  1. Hatch sitting eggs (including any code eggs — see the codes page).
  2. PIT-test anything that might be a carry.
  3. Tag Route birds from the egg chart.
  4. Park Fuse parents on a short mental list.
  5. Sell the rest and spend the Cash on attack/feeder/recycler upgrades while buffs are live.
  6. Arm offline laying before logout.

Event spikes (Chaos, Hot Egg) flood eggs — hatch, tag, and sell overflow so your inventory stays open for Blazing or Cursed stacks. Don’t AFK on a full coop.

Should I sell before rebirth?

Yes — convert junk into Cash and spend it on lasting upgrades or fusions before the reset wipes spendable Cash. Selling the flock and then hatching a better Thunder pull is fine; selling the only Viking that just unlocked Scratch lays is not. When in doubt, check the rebirth guide for what actually carries over.
